NO one should be surprised Labor is reshuffling its frontbench less than a year after an election loss and a give-away budget, Labor frontbencher Stephen Smith said today. Mr Smith refused to say whether he thought Labor was travelling well, but welcomed the reshuffle. Opposition Leader Kim Beazley has expanded his shadow ministry by two, bringing in former frontbencher Lindsay Tanner and South Australian senator-elect Annette Hurley, who joins the Senate after the July 1 changeover.

Mr Smith's broad responsibility for the workplace relations, infrastructure and industry portfolios is tipped as one of those to be split up when Mr Beazley announces the new line-up today.

"Firstly, I welcome the fact that Lindsay Tanner will return to the frontbench," Mr Smith said.
