The worldwide server market grew 8.1 percent year-over-year to $12.5 billion in the third quarter, according to a report released Wednesday. This marked the tenth consecutive quarter of growth in the server market, according to the Framingham, Massachusetts-based research firm IDC, as more companies invested in strengthening their server infrastructure to support other technology investments. The study found that revenues from shipments of “volume servers” (those priced less than $25,000) grew 14.8 percent year-over-year and represented the main growth engine for the overall server market.
