THE Mornington Peninsula will play host to a fictional bird flu next week as Australia tests its readiness for a major outbreak among animals. The Eleusis exercise will simulate the early stages of opportunistic animal-to-human transmission of the H5N1 virus -- the flu threat most likely to break out here. About 1000 people, including veterinary, quarantine and disease control experts, will take part in the three-day exercise beginning Tuesday.
