QUEENSLAND'S road carnage continued yesterday when a 10-month-old boy and his mother died in a horror crash in the state's southeast. A police spokeswoman said a car and semi-trailer collided head-on about 3pm on a bridge on the Cunningham Highway near Frazerview, 88km southwest of Brisbane. A Queensland Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the car was trapped beneath the truck after the collision. The mother was dead in the wreckage when emergency crews arrived, while the 10-month-old was alive but trapped in the wreckage. Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics raced the baby to the Boonah Hospital but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Two other children, aged eight and two, were also in the car. They escaped serious injury and were transported to Boonah Hospital.
The accident continued a horror patch on Queensland roads. Ten people were killed in seven accidents in a 27-hour period from 5am on Monday.
