Oil prices eased today, despite fears of a possible storm in the US northeast as traders awaited the US Energy Department's latest inventory snapshot. Oil pices initially headed toward US$59 a barrel amid expectations of higher heating oil demand ahead of a possible snowstorm in the northeastern US. But light, sweet crude for January delivery on the New York Mercantile Exchange lost 54 US cents to US$58.30 a barrel in electronic trading by midday in Europe.
